Even though I didn’t live in Berlin in the 90s, the wrapping of the Reichstag by Christo and Jeanne-Claude is firmly anchored in my memory. Since then, I recognise a small work of art in every building that is hidden behind scaffolding and tarpaulins. They appear almost like sculptures and offer room for the imagination.
These temporary coverings are snapshots of a city that is always in search of itself – transitional stages between past and future. The analogue technique reinforces the timeless atmosphere and emphasises the contrast between the visible and the hidden.
‘Wrapped Berlin’ is not only an exploration of the veiled, but also an invitation to take a closer look – and to consciously perceive the changes in urban spaces. It is a homage to the fleeting moment of transition and a reflection on what the city and space mean.

Auch wenn ich in den 90ern noch nicht in Berlin lebte, ist die Verhüllung des Reichstags durch Christo und Jeanne-Claude fest in meinem Gedächtnis verankert. Seitdem erkenne ich in jedem Gebäude, das sich hinter Gerüsten und Planen versteckt, ein kleines Kunstwerk. Sie erscheinen fast wie Skulpturen und bieten Raum für die eigene Vorstellungskraft.
Diese temporären Verhüllungen sind Momentaufnahmen einer Stadt, die stets auf der Suche nach sich selbst ist – Übergangsstadien zwischen Vergangenheit und Zukunft. Die analoge Technik verstärkt die zeitlose Atmosphäre und unterstreicht den Kontrast zwischen dem Sichtbaren und dem Verborgenen.
„Wrapped Berlin“ ist nicht nur eine Erkundung des Verhüllten, sondern auch eine Einladung, genauer hinzusehen – und die Veränderungen in den städtischen Räumen bewusst wahrzunehmen. Es ist eine Hommage an den flüchtigen Moment des Übergangs und eine Reflexion darüber, was Stadt und Raum bedeuten.
